The second Metaverse Deep Dive session, organised by Metaverse Finland Ecosystem together with Business Finland and Frost & Sullivan, explored how XR hardware is evolving from bulky headsets toward lightweight, always-available spatial computing. Frost & Sullivan experts Heena Juneja and Soumyadeep Roy Chowdhurypresented XR as a rapidly maturing technology stack—where hardware, software, AI tools, cloud infrastructure and content engines converge into enterprise-driven solutions. The shift is clear:
“Enterprise buyers are no longer focused only on display resolution. They want ROI, cybersecurity and compliance”, Juneja noted.
Soumyadeep Roy Chowdhury highlighted the next major breakthrough: AR glasses becoming socially acceptable, modular, and AI-enabled.
“The form factor itself is a big encouragement for adoption. Users want one multimodal device, not multiple headsets”, he explained.
Turku University of Applied Sciences, represented by Matti Gröhn, showcased concrete progress through context-aware reality: anonymized video streams, real-time object detection, and AI-generated 3D environments created in hours rather than weeks.
Discussion emphasised near-term value in maintenance guidance, education, extended work spaces, and city-scale assistants, while also recognizing challenges around privacy, usability and standards.
The takeaway: XR is moving beyond devices toward ambient infrastructure. The opportunity now is to build pilots that turn this technological shift into real industrial and societal impact.
“With technologies like Gaussian splatting and AI-assisted modelling, what previously took weeks to build can now be created in hours. This radically lowers the threshold for experimenting, prototyping, and bringing context-aware reality into practical use”, Gröhn said.
