The first Metaverse Deep Dive session, organised by Metaverse Finland Ecosystem together with Business Finland and Frost & Sullivan, focused on clarifying what the metaverse truly is and why that clarity matters now.
Frost & Sullivan highlighted a clear shift from consumer-driven virtual worlds toward the industrial and enterprise metaverse. According to Frost & Sullivan, the strongest near-term value lies in operational digital twins, engineering and product design, workforce collaboration, and customer interaction.
“The enterprise metaverse is not limited by technology. It is limited by what organisations want to achieve and how boldly they are willing to start,” noted Soumyadeep Roy Chowdhury (Frost & Sullivan).
From the ecosystem perspective, Metaverse Finland emphasised that the metaverse is not and won’t be a single platform, device, or virtual world, but a persistent digital layer connected to reality and human activity.
“The metaverse is the totality of digital information connected to the physical world. It reflects reality, simulates futures, augments decisions, and allows interaction with physical systems,” explained Jani Vallirinne, Lead of the Metaverse Finland Ecosystem.
Durting the discussion, the recurring theme was the need for interoperability and shared standards, rather than additional regulation. Today’s fragmented “protoverses” must gradually connect much like the early web once did. Finland’s strengths, including a strong industrial base, trusted data environments, and public–private collaboration, position it well to lead this transition.
The takeaway from the first Deep Dive Session was clear: the metaverse is not a distant vision if we work towards making it real. In many ways parts and solutions taking us forward are already emerging through practical pilots. The next step is turning more and more pilots and use cases into real impact.
