Helsinki, Finland – November 19, 2024 – The Metaverse Finland Ecosystem (MEFI), an ecosystem designed to drive Finland’s leadership in the immersive and metaverse technologies sector, will be officially launched at MatchXR 2024. The announcement will be made by Ecosystem Leads, Tomi Kankainenand Medha Gupta, who will showcase MEFI’s developments during the event’s Innovation Talks segment.
Built from the ground up in less than a year, MEFI was a response to an industry need for interoperability, standardisation, increased dealflow and increased user interaction with metaverse technologies. This movement has rapidly evolved from an idea into a strategic force, uniting key stakeholders and partners under a shared vision. As the last innovation cluster funded by Business Finland, the ecosystem has set an ambitious standard, attracting 21 organisations to commit to join in its inaugural year! Further, NOKIA has joined the Ecosystem as an Anchor Partner securing a special spot in the Management board.
“At Nokia, we are thrilled to join the Metaverse Finland ecosystem and contribute to its objectives,”says Ville-Veikko Mattila, Head of Multimedia Technologies at Nokia, who has been appointed Chairman of the Management Board of the Metaverse Finland Ecosystem.
This Management board too was established in the month of November and currently consists of 5 members. As leads, Medha and Tomi have ensured a balance of organisations in terms of types (Academic and Industrial) and size (large, medium and small) in the management board to create a fair representation for everyone in the decision making mechanism of the Ecosystem.

MatchXR attendees will get an exclusive look at MEFI’s advancements and strategic initiatives, focusing on the integration of immersive technology into sectors like ICT, smart manufacturing, e-governance, and smart mobility.

The presentation will occur shortly after Business Finland’s Sanni Siltanen kicks off the day, underscoring MEFI’s significance in shaping Finland’s innovation landscape.

The ecosystem has been developed to foster collaboration, support technological breakthroughs, and prepare Finland for a future shaped by immersive experiences.
